This is a Mighty Murray Cod that is an Australian native freshwater fish. This fish lives the Murray Darling System and is the biggest freshwater fish that actively hunts lures. This is the 4th largest freshwater fish in the world. We are very lucky to have this great legend on our back door step and we should take great advantage of this.
The Murray Cod and Golden Perch are the target species for most freshwater anglers, along with the incidental catch of the total protected Trout Cod. A Murray Cod over the 100cm mark is a fish of a life time and these fish are targeted by the more experienced anglers who put in days of effort to catch one of the monsters from the deep. When a fish at that size is caught make sure you return it to the water unharmed so it can live and be there for another fisherman to catch.
